2 Find out which
colleges that appeal to you also have programs of study for your major of
interest.
3 Compile a list
of 4 colleges/universities in which you are interested. For each school, complete the WORKSHEET. At least two schools must be in
4 Write a letter
to one of your selected institutions, requesting an admissions package. In the letter, tell them where you attend
school, what grade you are in, and you major of interest. Write this letter in a formal business
format. You do not have to mail this but
a copy of it must be included in your portfolio. If you mail it and include the response
letter in your portfolio, you may receive 10 points of extra credit.
5 Print a copy
of the HOPE Scholarship application and complete it. This must be included in your portfolio. DO NOT mail this! This form will change each year. By doing this part of the assignment, you
will have all the relevant information available to copy onto the new form.
6 Make a
checklist of the College Preparatory Courses that you will
need to take. Include a column for the
date you passed the course and the grade you earn. You can do this in Word by inserting a table
with 3 columns and the required number of rows for each course. Complete this checklist for courses you have
already taken. Calculate
your GPA and include this on the copy of the checklist you submit in your
portfolio.
7 Using the GPA that you found in the previous exercise,
determine the required SAT and ACT scores you will need to make in order to
meet the Freshman Index requirement for each of
the 4 schools you chose in exercise 3.
For each school you should have 2 formulas, one for SAT and one for ACT
scores. You should show the formula, the
substitution of the numbers, and the solving for each calculation. How practical/feasible are these scores?

– this does NOT mean cut and paste the article.
This means to read and briefly summarize each tip in your own words.
9 Organize all of the above materials in a pocket folder
to turn in for a grade. Click HERE for instructions on assembling your portfolio and
grading criteria. Remember, this is a
major project that will be of great use to you later. Take pride in it.

raised admission standards
Ø
In addition
to raising the standards, a formula, Freshman Index
(FI), was implemented to help guide students and parents in selecting the
appropriate post-secondary institution
Ø
The 16-course
College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) is required for
admission to any University System college or university
Will determine eligibility for admission
Based on a student’s SAT or ACT score and high school grade
point average (HSGPA)
·
FI(with SAT) =
500 x (HSGPA) + [SAT I Verbal + SAT I Math]
·
FI(with ACT) =
500 x (HSGPA) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88
Required FI by institution type
The University System of Georgia requires that students complete the CPC to ensure
that they are academically prepared to succeed at college
